Renewable Power

The Rentech-SilvaGas and Rentech-ClearFuels biomass gasification processes can convert multiple biomass feedstocks into synthesis gas (syngas) for renewable power (RenPower™) production. The RenPower™ electricity produced using these processes is expected to qualify under the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) program and be sold in the wholesale market to an independent power producer, trading company or local utility, municipal electric authority or rural cooperative. The RPS program requires utilities to increase the amount of electric power they sell from qualified renewable-energy resources. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), as of November 2008, twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia had legislatively mandated RPS programs. The EIA estimates that electricity generation from biomass will comprise nearly 30 percent or 243 billion Kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity in 2030.

Rentech develops projects and offers licensing opportunities that use the market-leading Rentech-SilvaGas and Rentech-ClearFuels gasifiers either in facilities integrated with Rentech’s patent-pending syngas conditioning and clean-up technology and the Rentech Process for production of synthetic fuels and power or separately for applications such as stand-alone renewable electric power facilities.
